Right Here Right Now is a CPD Workshop for counsellors and psychotherapists. It introduces the principles and practices of Improvisation (improve) to support therapists enhance their relational skills.
As therapists we are taught about the importance of the therapeutic relationship. We read and write about being relational, yet, for many of us there’s a gap. We have had little or no experiences in training of working through structured exercises that teach us how to consciously bring our whole selves into contact and connection. Improv bridges that gap.
Between now and 20 June I’ll be blogging about 4 of the various areas covered in Right here Right Now
- Listening with your whole being
- Committing to “Yes and…”
- Being authentic
- Relationship – a focus on the process of contact and connection
My experience is that Improv radically alters your lived sense of bringing your whole self into contact with clients. Improv ties into becoming more spontaneous and real with clients moment by unfolding moment. It’s so focused on seeing with your whole body that it raises ones attunement to the tiny, subtle changes in other people and in ourselves.
One of the first benefits you’ll notice is that you are more aware of tracking and grading your interventions, and more at ease noticing shifts in clients’ emotional states. Not only that, Improv is an amazingly fast and fun way to enhance your ability to be present, in contact with others and fully connected to what you are seeing, feeling, hearing, thinking and doing.
Over the next four weeks I will focus on four key practices which specifically enable therapists to bridge that gap between theory and the lived experience. These four, and more, will be fully explored in the 1 day workshop Right Here Right Now on Saturday 25 June 2016.
